All clubs and coaches are reminded that coaches’ first aid, CPR, and safety training certifications must be current in order for coaches to perform their duties on the deck at practices and at meets. A recent review of the coach roster shows that as many as 20% of the coaching credentials are not current, and therefore invalid. It is up to coaches to keep their certifications current. The coach’s USA Swimming membership card lists the expiration dates of each of the coach’s certifications. Member clubs must ensure that all their coaches complete the necessary training and maintain valid registration cards.
It is the policy of San Diego-Imperial Swimming that all coaches must display their current coach membership card on deck at meets. At meets this fall the head referee or a designee will conduct coach membership card checks at each meet to ensure compliance with this requirement. Coaches with questions about certification requirements should contact the SI Swim office at si-swimming@sbcglobal.net or (619) 275-1292.

In case you hadn’t noticed, SI Swimming is in the process of updating the look of our website. As of this post, about 70% of the old website has been converted to the new structure. The previous version of the SI website hadn’t really been changed in the past 4 years – which is almost forever in online world! In addition to changing the look of the site, we have changed the underlying software architecture to improve the performance and give all our users a more consistent experience. With so many changes being made to the website code, there are bound to be somethings we miss, forget or just plain foul up. If you find something in the site which looks strange or could be improved, please don’t hesitate to let the webmaster know by submitting a comment!

Due to popular request, the SI Swimming ABC and JO Time Standards have been published in a consolidated, easy to read format. Choose Short Course Yards (SCY) or Long Course Meters (LCM) and print and enjoy!
And where do these time standards come from? By rule, our San Diego ABC time standards are set to equal those published by our large neighbor LSC to the north, Southern California Swimming. They call their time standards Blue-Red-White, but other than that they are identical. These time standards are very stable and rarely change from year to year. Having equivalent time standards makes it easier for swimmers to enter and compete in the other LSC’s swim meets. On the other hand, our Junior Olympic time standards are set locally here in San Diego and are crafted to select approximately the 24 fastest swimmers in each event based upon the average results in the event over the past 3 – 5 years. These time standards can, and often do, change by small amounts from year to year in order to keep up with advances (and sometimes declines) in the various age groups.
