MVY will be accepting Late entries until 8:30am on Saturday 1/12/13. No team canopies will be allowed on deck during the meet, but the lower field shown on the map will be where all teams are housed during the meet. No late entries will be accepted from parents or athletes. Please send a registered coach to the admin desk to take care of entries, and we will be happy to get them in the meet.
We have two offsite parking lots that will be used for the swim meet. They are both shown on the map, and are directly across the street from the YMCA. The first parking area is Rick’s Engineering located across the street, and the second is the park and ride located west of the YMCA on Friars road. It is just beyond Napa street.
We have a parent drop off zone in the west parking lot of the YMCA for parents to drop off their children if they wish, but no swim meet participants can park at the YMCA.
Estimated Timeline:
- Saturday AM : Start 9:00 am, finish 12:15 pm plus any relays
- Saturday PM: Start approx 1:30pm, finish 3:30 pm
- Sunday AM : Start 9:00 am, finish 12:00 noon plus any relays
- Sunday PM: Start approx 1:30pm, finish 3:30 pm.

This meet started out really badly. They started Event 1 Heat 1 just seconds after the staff posted the heat/lane assignment in one location on the deck. As 8 & under swimmers in Event 1 were being crushed & trying to get behind the blocks the meet started. It was not until Event 1 Heat 3 that they held the meet until the kids were in place. By that time the damage had been done. Young kids crying, upset, disappointed as a result of a lack of control of the officials had first thing in the morning.
I hope this does not happen again to another family. As far as we are concerned we will not swim at any meets at Mission Valley YMCA. They do not have the pool space, cool down areas, bathrooms, parking, etc. I felt that the support staff of MVY were also fairly aggressive with both parents and swimmers with commentary about parking, walking on the lawn area, bathroom areas. Having been to this pool, I understood the issues and was more than willing to follow protocols. When protocols would change halfway into the meet (bathrooms for example) for no apparent reason the support staff would start yelling at parents. This was not an experience I want my swimmers to again experience.
